Keiko Urushihara
From her very first appearance, the youngest participant and laureate of the competition, the eighteen-year-old Keiko Urushihara became the audience's favourite. And, as it turned out, the jury's too. Besides the main prize, the first winner from Japan received six extra-statutory prizes. In 1982, she graduated from the National University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo. Since then, she has done concerts tours of Europe and Japan with renowned orchestras and conductors, both as soloist, and chamber musician, playing with such artists as Pinchas Zuckerman, Yo Yo Ma, Karl Leister, or the Halley String Quartet. Has made numerous recordings incl. six solo CDs.
