History

Poznań Chamber Choir was formed in October 1987 – as an initiative of Prof. Stanisław Kulczyński, the Rector of Music Academy in Poznań – as a part of the most energetic musical organisation in Poznań: The Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society.

The choir made its debut in April 1988, and at the end of that year went on a first tour to Moscow and Dubna, where it sang at the famous Rachmaninov Hall at the Moscow Conservatory. Within the next years Poznań Chamber Choir gave concerts in the following European countries: Latvia (1989), Sweden (1989), Czech Republic (1990, 2004), Germany (1990, 1992, 2001), the Netherlands (1990, 1992, 1995), France (1992), Spain (1995), Lithuania (1996), Switzerland (1997) and Slovakia (2003). The choir continually gives concerts in radio and  television in Poland.

Poznań Chamber Choir is a two-time I prize winner of mixed choirs category at the “Legnica Cantat” Festival (1990, 1991) and Gold and Silver Medal at the International Choir Competition in Olomouc (Czech Republic 2004) . They also took part in the International Choir Festival in Neuchâtel (Switzerland 1997) and Senica (Slovakia 2003).

In May 2001 Professor Stanisław Kulczyński , handing over “the conductor’s baton” to his student Ms. Katarzyna Matelska, who is a graduate of Poznań Music Academy (1996).

Among many choirs existing in Poznań, The Poznań Chamber Choir can be distinguished by their sensitivity, subtlety of tone and repertoire that includes many jazz, light music and negro spirituals positions, which are always received warmly by listeners. In their repertoire the choir has both old as well as contemporary music pieces, of both Polish and other nationalities’ composers.

The choir has recorded three CDs: „Cantate Domino”, „Polish Christmas Carols” and „Pójdźmy wszyscy do stajenki – Christmas Carols”.
