The 17th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań will be inaugurated by a concert of the Poznań Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Łukasz Borowicz, featuring the outstanding South Korean cellist Tae-Yeon Kim – winner of the 2nd Prize and Audience Prize of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels (2026), among other accolades.

About the soloist:
South Korean cellist Tae-Yeon Kim has earned international recognition for her exceptional artistry and remarkable achievements at an early age. Most recently, she won Second Prize and the Klara Audience Award at the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition. In 2024, she also won First Prize and nine special prizes at the 12th Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition.
Kim has distinguished herself at numerous international competitions, earning top prizes at the Antonio Janigro, Gustav Mahler, Young Tchaikovsky and Osaka international competitions, as well as the Bohuslav Martinů Prize in Prague and the prestigious Frans Helmerson Prize from the Kronberg Academy.
As a soloist, she has appeared with orchestras worldwide, including the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Lahti Symphony Orchestra, the Chattanooga Symphony, the Kraków Philharmonic, the Saint Petersburg City Orchestra, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Brevard Festival Orchestra, the Novosibirsk Youth Orchestra, the Korean Traditional Orchestra, the KT Chamber Orchestra and Kremerata Baltica.
At the age of 14, Kim was admitted to the Curtis Institute of Music as a Jacqueline du Pré Memorial Fellow. She currently studies with Gary Hoffman and Peter Wiley. With numerous international recitals and concerto appearances scheduled through 2028, she continues to captivate audiences on major stages worldwide.
Kim performs on an Omobono Stradivari cello made in Cremona in 1740, generously supported by Christophe Landon Rare Violins.
